Aircon installation in Singapore: full cost breakdown and what to check

Aircon installation quotes in Singapore vary wildly, and the cheapest headline number is rarely the cheapest final bill. This guide breaks down what you should actually be paying and what a complete quote must include.

Extended warranty is available for $99. We price-beat any comparable written quote — send it to us on WhatsApp.

What a complete quote must include

If the quote does not name the piping length included, that is where the extra charges appear on installation day.

  • Indoor and outdoor units, with model numbers stated
  • Copper piping up to a stated length, with insulation
  • Trunking or casing, with the colour and length specified
  • Drainage piping and discharge point
  • Electrical wiring and isolator
  • Mounting brackets for the condenser
  • Installation labour, testing and commissioning
  • Removal and disposal of the old system, if applicable

Hidden costs to ask about before you sign

  • Piping beyond the included length, charged per metre
  • Additional trunking runs
  • Wall chiselling or hacking through concrete
  • Condenser bracket replacement on older ledges
  • Removal and disposal of the existing units
  • Weekend or after-hours surcharges

How to choose the right system size

BTU should match the room, not the price list. As a rough Singapore guide: a standard HDB bedroom needs 9,000 BTU, a master bedroom 9,000–12,000 BTU, and a living/dining area 18,000–24,000 BTU.

Also check the total capacity of the outdoor unit. A System 4 that cannot support all four indoor units at full load will underperform on the hottest afternoons.

Installation day: what to expect

  1. Quote confirmed and installation date scheduled
  2. Site visit or photo assessment to confirm pipe runs and condenser position
  3. Installation day: mounting, piping, wiring, trunking — typically 4–8 hours
  4. Vacuum and pressure test before charging the system
  5. Cooling test on every unit, remote handover and warranty registration
  6. Site cleared and cleaned

HDB, condo and landed differences

HDB requires condenser installation within the designated service yard or ledge, with no drilling into external facades. Condos usually need MCST approval and have restricted working hours. Landed properties have more freedom but often longer pipe runs, which affects cost.
